A game room is a fantastic place to both entertain guests and to also have some quality family time. And, here are 5 ideas that will spruce up your game room and breathe fresh new life into it.

1. Out with the pool table – In with the Shuffleboard

If you haven’t heard of shuffleboard, look it up! It’s the “in” family game to have in a game room. Anyone can play it and it is one of those games where kids can go up against adults and in fact be better at it. You can’t say the same of games like pool and foosball. That way, it is a very inclusive game that also allows older folks to play as well. 

2. Throw in a swivel chair

A swivel chair is a fantastic addition for a game room. Because it can spin around, whoever is sitting on it could be cheering, participating in a game or just spanning the room while catching all the fun. And, the swivel chair is a game in itself for kids. Just make sure they don’t spin themselves dizzy!

3. Upgrade your music 

A game room must have music. Make a small investment to set up a nice audio system and your game nights are going to be so much more fun. It doesn’t have to be an expensive overhaul either. A 5.1 surround system can be bought for well under £300 these days. Just make sure you give guests an option to quickly connect to your audio setup when they come over, either with an aux cable or through a bluetooth connection. A small instruction sheet on your audio system will encourage guests and friends to become DJs and make your life easier.

4. Get a Mini-Bar

Is it mostly adults who come over for game night? A mini-bar adds a lot of fun into the equation. Stock a mini fridge with your and your friends’ favourite beers and wines and watch how everyone winds down a lot sooner than before. The more relaxed the atmosphere, the more fun the games are!

5. Video game console

While you might be wanting a game room to help your family get away from electronics, a video game console addition is still not a bad idea. This is particularly helpful when your game room is going to have quite a few visitors. Not everyone can be entertained with board games or cards or whatever most people are into. For those people, video games are a safe bet. They will at least want to try out some new interesting games that will keep them occupied. You don’t have to worry about keeping them entertained either.
